Twitter Fail Spotted During Star Wars Trailer Announcement

There must’ve been red faces behind the scenes at the latest Star Wars Celebration conference after a hashtag designed to promote the new trailer misspelled the name of a major character.

The event saw the cast and crew of ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ gathered in Anaheim, California at the annual event.

In front of an audience of thousands of fans, and with many more watching on a live-stream, they revealed the film’s hotly anticipated new trailer.

But before that, the host unveiled a brand new set of Star Wars-themed Twitter hashtag emojis - similar to those used during the World Cup last summer - which attach a cute picture next to your tweet.

There was #Stormtrooper, #BB8 (the cute new robot in the upcoming film) and #CP30 – the gold protocol droid who of course has appeared in all 7 films.  See above.

However, as many eagle-eyed viewers on Twitter noticed almost instantaneously, it’s C3PO, not CP30. We’re not sure how it got past the proofreaders!

Anthony Daniels, who’s played the robot in all the movies, made things even more awkward when he referenced it on stage, saying “I’ve got my own hashtag, CP30!”.

Thankfully, the trailer was so superb that it more than made up for the blooper. Watch it below.
