Shaboozey’s ‘A Bar Song (Tipsy)’ Hits No. 1 on the Hot 100

“A Bar Song (Tipsy)” by Shaboozey is the No. 1 song in the United States this week. The country single, which interpolates J-Kwon’s 2009 single, “Tipsy,” becomes the first song by Black male artist to simultaneously top the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs charts.

Though “Tipsy” had a strong debut on the Hot 100 when it arrived back in April, the song’s climb to No. 1 has been slow, with its position in the top 10 inevitable. It landed at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart shortly after Shaboozey made his Stagecoach debut, replacing Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” in a true signpost moment since his previous Hot 100 entries were for “Texas'” parent LP, “Cowboy Carter”: “Spaghettii” (No. 31 peak) and “Sweet * Honey * Buckiin’ ” (No. 61).

“Tipsy” leads this week’s chart (dated June 28-July 4) with 60 million radio airplay audience impressions and 45 million streams and 23,000 sold. Meanwhile, Shaboozey’s LP “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going,” sits at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

New artists are scattered across the Top 10 this week: Sabrina Carpenter continues her double shot of hits with “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” at Nos. 4 and 6, respectively; Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” is No. 5; Bensoon Boone’s “Beautiful Things” is No. 8; Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control” is No. 9 and Chappell Roan logs her first Top 10 hit with “Good Luck Babe!” at No. 10.

Roan’s pop hit drew 20.9 million streams and 16 million in airplay audience impressions. Plus, her latest album, “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess,” hit the Top Five of the albums chart for the first time at No. 5.

The albums chart itself continues to be ruled by Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” for an 11th consecutive and total week. It ties with Swift’s “1989” and “Fearless” as her longest-leading No. 1 albums. Also in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Megan” enters at No. 3, while Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter” returns to the Top 10 at No. 10 after the release of a deluxe vinyl edition.
