Reese Witherspoon is Roughing It in the 'Wild' Trailer

It’s woman-versus-nature in the new trailer for the great-outdoors drama Wild, the Reese Witherspoon-starring drama that arrives in theaters this fall. Based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Cheryl Strayed, Wild sets Witherspoon across the arduous Pacific Coast Trail, as she impulsively takes to the wilderness in the wake of her mother’s death and her marriage’s dissolution.

Wild is one of two potential Oscar contenders for Witherspoon this year: In addition to Wild, she’s producing the highly anticipated adaptation of Gone Girl which hits theaters Oct. 3. (That also happens to be the premiere date for Witherspoon’s other star turn, in the refugee drama The Good Lie.)

Wild director Jean-Marc Vallee (Dallas Buyers Club) told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that the actress really did rough it for the role as the production tried to re-create the many painful steps of Strayed’s journey. "She went method with the hair and no makeup,” said Vallee. “We wanted to see Reese out there, not vain at all, not concerned with her image, and she went for it."
