Oscars 2015: Joan Rivers Snubbed By In Memoriam Segment

She may have been a fixture on the Oscar red carpet for years, but Joan Rivers was not included in the show’s In Memoriam section, which plays tribute to Hollywood stars who’ve passed away in the past year.

Comedian Rivers, who died during throat surgery in 2014 aged 81, appeared on ‘Fashion Police’ for more than a decade.

She would ruthlessly skewer the stars’ looks on show and conduct hilarious interviews on the red carpet, and was for many the highlight of the whole event. As Slate’s Dan Kois said: “She was one of the reasons that many of us even CARE about the Oscars”.

Predictably, her omission from the tribute section drew the ire of many on social networks. Comedian Billy Eichner summed up the mood: “No Joan Rivers in the montage??? She basically created the red carpet which makes all of these b****s millions. For shame!!!”.

Besides her work as an acerbic presenter, Rivers also appeared as an actress in ‘Spaceballs’, ‘Look Who’s Talking’, ‘The Muppets Take Manhattan’, as well as voicing herself in ‘Shrek 2.’ She also directed bizarre comedy ‘The Rabbit Test’, which starred Billy Crystal as the first pregnant man.Bob Hoskins,

Robin Williams and Richard Attenborough were amongst the stars who did make it into the In Memoriam segment. Meryl Streep introduced the montage, saying: “There will never be anyone like them, each and every one.”
