The Mars Generation will focus on the emotional and human journey that propels mankind deeper into the universe, with the hope of one day being able to sustain life there, according to the producers. Through stunning footage, original testimony from those who have been into space and contributions from major names in the field, the documentary will build a vision of how Mars eventually might be conquered — and by whom. The Mars Generation also will look at those who dream of life on Mars, including 13-year-old Alyssa Carson, who has longed to be an astronaut since she was 3. The docu asks the question: What drives a young girl to look to the stars, and what do other members of the Mars Generation think about reaching the Red Planet and beyond? Here’s the video of Carson:

director,” said Natalka Znak, CCOat Znak&Jones. “Morgan’s incredible skills as a storyteller will bring this ambitious project to life, giving us a front-row seat for the future of space travel through the eyes of the children who are about to embark on the next phase of space exploration — to Mars and beyond.”

Neville’s 20 Feet From Stardom won the 2014 Best Documentary Feature Oscar as well as a Grammy for Best Music Film. He also won an Emmy for his film Hank Williams: Honky Tonk Blues. His latest documentary, Best Of Enemies, will be released in July.

“Space is something which makes us question our role here on Earth,” said Neville. “It brings out the best of our hopes and dreams. I look forward to making a film about that search.”
