Michelle Collins addresses EastEnders future amid movie roles

Michelle Collins has clarified her future as Cindy Beale in EastEnders following her new movie roles.

Appearing on tonight's (April 26) episode of The One Show, the actor appeared alongside co-hosts Alex Jones and Roman Kemp to promote her upcoming movies Stephen and Self Storage.

With the news of the actor's busy schedule, Alex asked if the movies would impact her time on the BBC One soap, with Michelle reassuring the presenters that the recently returned character was not leaving Walford anytime soon.

"I've still got my part-time job," the actor joked, adding that she works on the films in her "spare time".

"I'm still very much in EastEnders," Michelle continued, much to the relief of Alex and Roman.

Cindy has had quite the tumultuous time since her shock return, with the character doing her best to settle into life back in Walford with Ian Beale while also dealing with lingering feelings for ex-husband George Knight, who conveniently now runs the Queen Vic across the square.

Michelle then went on to tease further twists in Cindy's upcoming storylines, saying her character will get "badder" in the coming weeks.

"She's going to get... badder," Michelle told the group, with Roman and Alex questioning whether or not badder was an actual word.

"I was trying to think of a word I could say! People have said Cindy is too nice," she continued as fellow guests Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson giggled alongside her.

Stephen will see Michelle play the role of a loan shark called Max in a "film within a film" which explores the topic of recovery from addiction and is based on true events. "She's a bit of a nasty character," she said of the role.

Meanwhile, Self Storage is based on the real-life story of a woman who lived in a storage unit for 9 months during the COVID-19 lockdowns, with Michelle playing the leading role.

The One Show airs Mondays through Fridays at 7pm on BBC One. EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer, where most episodes drop early at 6am ahead of their TV broadcast.
