Louis Leterrier To Direct Sci-Fi Horror Pic ‘11817’; Rocket Science, CAA Launching Sales At Cannes

Louis Leterrier (Fast X) will direct and produce 11817, a sci-fi horror film scripted by Matthew Robinson (The Invention of Lying), through his new shingle Carrousel Studios. The project is being presented to buyers at Cannes by Rocket Science.

The film watches as inexplicable forces trap a family of four inside their house indefinitely. As both modern luxuries and life or death essentials begin to run out, the family must learn how to be resourceful to survive and outsmart who — or what — is keeping them trapped…

Casting is currently underway on the pic to be produced by Leterrier’s Carrousel Studios, Rocket Science, Thank You Studios, Chernin Entertainment (A North Road Company) and 3 Arts Entertainment. Producers include Leterrier, Thomas Benski and Omar Sy for Carrousel Studios, Lars Sylvest for Thank You Studios, Kori Adelson for Chernin Entertainment, Oly Obst of 3 Arts Entertainment, Thorsten Schumacher for Rocket Science, and Joe Neurauter. Cecile Gaget is exec producing for Carrousel Studios. In addition to handling foreign sales, Rocket Science will fully finance the project, with CAA Media Finance to rep domestic rights.

“Directing projects where the audience gets behind the characters has always been my focus. However complex, flawed, heroic, we identify with them as we live through their journey,” said Leterrier. “It’s what excites me about 11817‘s wholly original concept and the family at the heart of our story. This is an experience that movie audiences won’t forget.”

No stranger to tentpoles, Leterrier has helmed titles like Fast X, Now You See Me, The Transporter, The Incredible Hulk, Clash of the Titans and The Takedown. On the TV side, he produced and directed Netflix’s global hit Lupin, also helming the streamer’s Emmy-nominated show The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Currently, he’s also attached to direct the final film in the Fast & Furious franchise, which remains in development.

This year, Rocket Science’s Cannes slate also includes Ali Abbasi’s buzzy Donald Trump pic The Apprentice, starring Sebastian Stan, Jeremy Strong and Maria Bakalova, as well as Cliffhanger.

Leterrier is repped by CAA, Entertainment 360/LBI, Sloan Offer Weber & Dern, and UBBA in France; Robinson by CAA, 3 Arts, and Ziffren Brittenham.
