JK Rowling’s Brilliant Response To Fan Who 'Can't See Dumbledore As Gay'

JK Rowling has responded rather brilliantly to a Harry Potter fan who questioned her decision to make Harry Potter character Professor Albus Dumbledore gay.

A Twitter user called anakocovic21 took to the social network to air her views on the matter, addressing the question directly to Rowling.

“Thank you so much for writing Harry Potter. I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is a gay because I can’t see him that way,” she wrote.

Always quick to pounce on such things, Rowling reply was concise and very much to the point:

“Maybe because gay people just look like… people.”

Rowling joined the social network in 2009, and has only tweeted 600 times since then, but she does tend to make them count.

The user has since deleted the comment, but not before Rowling’s comeback was retweeted a sturdy 7000 times, and favourited nearly 10,000 times.

But following the comment, Ana Kocovic came around to Rowling’s way of thinking.

@jk_rowling amazing answer... Yes you are absolutely right. Such an inspiration!!!

“Amazing answer,” she said. “Yes you are absolutely right. Such an inspiration!!!”

It’s not the first time that the Harry Potter author has sprung to the defence of Dumbledore’s sexuality, which she revealed in 2007, after publishing the final book ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’.

“It has certainly never been news to me that a brave and brilliant man could love other men,” she said at the time.

“He is my character. He is what he is and I have the right to say what I say about him.”
