Yahoo Movies ‘My Fault’ Star Gabriel Guevara Anchors Atresplayer’s ‘Mar Afuera,’ Venturing Into the Depths of Juvenile Struggle (EXCLUSIVE)
Gabriel Guevara, the breakout star of the huge hit film saga “My Fault” (“Culpa Mía”) on Amazon Prime Video, is now set to lead Atresplayer’s new series, “Mar afuera.” This project marks a significant collaboration between Atresmedia TV and Beta Fiction Spain, taking on the adaptation of the smash Italian series “Mare Fuori,” (“The Sea Beyond”) which added 300,000 new subscribers to RAI Play when Season 3 launched, and sold to over 20 territories.
The eight-episode series follows the life of Álvaro, played by Guevara, a young seventeen year old from an affluent background whose life spirals after an accident finds himself in a juvenile detention center.

Amidst the loss of his privilege and outside passions – such as his beloved piano – he is thrust into a new reality with the diverse clientele of the detention center. A reality hostile to him. Set against the backdrop of a juvenile correctional facility by the sea, the series explores themes of survival, sexuality and family, as Álvaro and his peers cope with confinement.
“Gabriel is one of the Spanish young actors with the greatest potential. We have already worked with him in another Atresplayer series, ‘Red Flags’, and now he will star in ‘Mar afuera,” said Montse García, director of fiction at Atresmedia TV. “It represents a great challenge because he will bring to life a very complex character, Álvaro, who is crucial for this story.”
Atresplayer, a preeminent Spanish streaming platform renowned for its commitment to groundbreaking Spanish content, is gearing up to commence filming in May. With a stellar track record of producing award-winning series such as Los Javis “Veneno”, the much talked of “Cardo” from Claudia Costafreda and Ana Rujas, and Malaga winner Paco Cabezas’ “The Gypsy Bride,” Atresplayer aims to have another hit with “Mar afuera.”
It joins a strong lineup for 2024, with “Mariliendre” created by Javier Ferreiro, “La sombra de la Tierra” co-produced with Fonte Films, and “Eva & Nicole” recently part of this month’s MipDrama showcase.
Guevara brings a fanbase, displayed by an enviable presence on social media with over 6 million followers. His casting underscores Atresplayer’s continuing commitment to pushing dynamic, young talent in its productions, hoping TV’s lost generation of teen audiences.
