'Breakfast at Tiffany's' Fires Unruly Cat Understudy

The cat fight backstage at "Breakfast at Tiffany's" has already claimed its first feline victim.

Montie, the understudy for the role of "cat," has been let go from the Broadway production, a spokesman for the play told TheWrap. He has been replaced by Moo.

"Cats are notoriously difficult -- they didn't even use cats in 'Cats' -- so it comes as no surprise that there had to be at least one firing during the run," the spokesman said.

Maybe it was just jealousy after Vito Vincent, the show's star Tabby, got the lion's share of the best reviews after the show opened this week, but the New York Post reports that Montie was being "unruly" backstage.

Both cats were selected after an open call for attention-seeking animals brought in 100 submissions.

Emilia Clarke, of "Game of Thrones" fame, stars as Holly Golightly in the play. The cat in question plays a key role in a party scene during the show and received better reviews than "Breakfast at Tiffany's" itself.

"That cat exuded an enviable air of devil-may-care independence as it zipped off the stage. Maybe it should have played Holly," Ben Brantley wrote in the New York Times.

It may be curtains for Montie's Great White Way debut, but he still has a place with the cast.

"Montie will remain a member of the production's family, but his days on the boards have been curtailed -- at least for this season," the spokesman said.
