Astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti Shows Her Starfleet Pride... From Space

With so much of the final frontier remaining unexplored, it’s nice to see that one astronaut is still ready to go where no one has gone before.

Italian spacefarer and Star Trek fan Samantha Cristoforetti got Twitter buzzing when she posted a snapshot direct from the International Space Station proudly clad in Starfleet regalia. (The specific uniform is from Star Trek: Voyager.) “There’s coffee in that nebula… ehm, I mean… in that #Dragon,” Cristoforetti’s Tweet reads, referring to an approaching SpaceX Dragon freighter that carried crucial survival tools for ISS residents, including, of course, coffee.

The astronaut, who goes by @AstroSamantha on Twitter, has shown her Trek love before. When Leonard “Mr. Spock” Nimoy passed away on Feb. 27, she tweeted a “Live long and prosper” message. Mostly, though, her feed features stunning aerial photographs of Earth as well as peeks at life aboard the ISS, which sadly doesn’t appear as comfortably spacious as the starships Enterprise or Voyager. It could be worse, though: She could actually be lost in the Delta Quadrant, 70,000 light years from home and well out of Tweeting range. But hey, at least she’d be dressed for the occasion.
