Thousands of migrants have crossed into the United States in recent days, from California to Texas, with many more still arriving by bus and cargo trains to Mexican border towns on the heels of record migration flows further south. The dramatic increase along the border - notably in San Diego, California and the Texan cities of El Paso and Eagle Pass - marks a turning point after numbers had plummeted in recent months, and could create fresh political challenges for U.S. President Joe Biden heading into election season. Biden in May rolled out a new policy to deter illegal crossings, including deporting migrants and banning re-entry for five years, as his administration grappled with migration at record highs.

A U.S. judge on Thursday restricted Sam Bankman-Fried's ability to call expert witnesses to testify at his criminal fraud trial, in a blow to the FTX cryptocurrency exchange founder. Bankman-Fried wanted to call seven experts on topics such as cryptocurrency markets and English contracts, to convince jurors to acquit him of stealing billions of dollars in FTX customer funds to plug losses at his Alameda Research hedge fund. But in a written order, U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan said three proposed witnesses cannot take the stand, because their testimony was irrelevant or could confuse the jury.
MILAN (AP) — Designers Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons achieved a state of unbearable lightness in a series of translucent chiffon dresses that gently cosseted the form, trailed by wispy strands of chiffon. The series of dresses dubbed “Haze,” previewed during the runway show Thursday for Prada Spring-Summer 2024 womenswear collection, never altered shape; only the shades of muted pastels shifted. They were paired with bright satin mules, either flats or with small triangular heels. As they did dur

Essex mum Jamie-Leigh Kelly, 31, left a centre for vulnerable mothers and children in Colindale in north London on 19 September with her three-year-old daughter and newborn baby boy, against the wishes of staff. It has been a wacky week for Carvana (NYSE: CVNA) as shares of the online used car dealer pulled back in spite of an analyst upgrade and initial optimism about the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike, which has affected production at some plants owned by General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler-parent Stellantis. The initial thinking was that by reducing production, the strike would lead to higher used car prices since there's less competition from new car supplies. Most buyers finance their used car purchases, and higher rates mean higher payments, making used cars less affordable.
