There is a new wave of optimism - in football terms at least - sweeping through Newcastle United after a takeover which has catapulted the club to the elite stratosphere as far as financial might is concerned.

Not that Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo will be concerned by all that. He’s travelling north to take on a Newcastle team winless from seven matches and stationed just a place off the foot of the Premier League table.

Only a win will be satisfactory for a Tottenham side that has struggled for consistency this season.

An opening-weekend win against Manchester City did not prove to be a harbinger for more success as 3-0 losses against Crystal Palace and Chelsea, as well as a 3-1 reverse at rivals Arsenal, has seen them slip down the table.

Steve Bruce is set to remain in charge of Newcastle despite a week of speculation about his future.

Date, kick-off time and venue

Newcastle vs Tottenham prediction:

Despite the feel-good factor sweeping through Tyneside it is hard to imagine an immediate turn in fortunes.

This is still the same team managed by the same coaching staff who have struggled so far and it is unlikely they’ll be able to turn things around against a stronger opponent.

As for Spurs, a game against Newcastle could prove a banana skin, particularly if the Georgie faithful can rouse their team to greater heights. That is a big if, because even an improved showing from the men in black and white might not be enough.

Newcastle 1-2 Tottenham.
