New 'Huntsman: Winter's War' Trailer Shows the Tragic Tale of Emily Blunt's Ice Queen
When the first trailer for The Huntsman: Winter’s War came out three months ago, it was hard to know who audiences were supposed to root for in this Kristen Stewart-less prequel to 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Supernatural sisters, the wicked Queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron) and the Ice Queen Freya (Emily Blunt), both seemed kind of terrifying. But in the new trailer released today, we get a fuller sense of Freya’s tragic backstory, and the reason she ended up frozen in Elsa-style solitude.
Did the preening, power-hungry Ravenna really kill Freya’s baby? That’s more chilling than anything she did to Snow White. The loss sends Freya into an icy tailspin in a distant fortress where she raises an army of young huntsmen — including two who grow up to be Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain.
Who will seize control of that trouble-causing mirror, mirror on the wall? We’ll find out when Winter’s War enters theaters on April 22.
