As it explains, despite being championed by his teacher Albus Dumbledore (not yet headmaster) the Magizoologist Newt Scamander has arrived in 1920s New York after being expelled from Hogwarts for 'endangering human life’.

Sounds like a good start to any movie of the magical.

As the official synopsis explains:

“Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.”

We get a better look at some of the new characters too, not least Eddie Redmayne’s Scamander.

There are magic-practising sisters Porpentina (Katherine Waterston) and Queenie Goldstein (Alison Sudol), and 'no-maj’ Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler), who gets dragged into the magical world, as Scamander is pursued by American wizard Percival Graves (Colin Farrell).

Also starring are Ron Perlman, Ezra Miller, Jon Voight, Samantha Morton, Gemma Chan, and Carmen Ejogo, with David Yates – who helmed the final four Potter movies – behind the camera.

We’ll find out what’s in the case on November 18.
