New DC Digital Comic Sets Up Events of 'Batman v Superman' (Exclusive)

With less than a month to go before Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice arrives in theaters, clues about the top-secret plot — especially the cause of the titular acrimony between two of DC Comics’ marquee heroes — are at a premium.

Yahoo Movies has the first look at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Upstairs/Downstairs, an upcoming DC digital comic created for the film’s release that provides a bit more insight into why the Caped Crusader is dubious of a certain Kryptonian.

Set in the wake of the events of Man of Steel, Upstairs/Downstairs unfolds with the citizens of Metropolis about to celebrate what a news anchor calls “the world’s greatest hero” with his very own statue (as seen in the trailers).

It’s an honor the Batman, watching the TV feeds from his subterranean Gotham City lair miles away, believes undeserved. And faithful butler Alfred Pennyworth is delighted to do a little needling.

Upstairs/Downstair examines what it means to be a superhero — whether it, as Bruce Wayne believes, requires being human, fallible, and empathetic, or whether it only requires having virtually unchecked god-like gifts.

Batman v Superman will show us whether such radically different notions of heroism can coexist. Wink-wink.

(Based on the trailers and TV spots, which lay bare the machinations of Lex Luthor and the existential threat of Doomsday, I’m confident Bats and Supes will realize being super friends is a better course of action.)

Download codes for Upstairs/Downstairs (written by Christos Gage, penciled by Joe Bennett, inked by Sean Parsons and colored by Hi-Fi Studios) will be available exclusively in Doritos Family Fun Mix multipacks at Walmart beginning Monday.

As for the main event: The Zack Snyder-helmed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavill (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jesse Eisenberg (Luthor), Jeremy Irons (Alfred), Amy Adams (Lois Lane), and Jason Momoa (Aquaman), hits cineplexes on March 25.
