New 'Ant-Man' Trailer: Yellowjacket Meets Thomas the Tank Engine
“Are you ready to become the hero?” asks Michael Douglas’s Hank Pym of Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang in the new full trailer for Marvel’s upcoming teensy superhero adaptation Ant-Man. (It hits theaters on July 17.) Judging by the action-packed clips — which find Rudd’s insect-inspired protagonist running, jumping, and taking down baddies — we’re going to guess the answer is yes.
The film’s first teaser, which debuted in January, focused on Lang’s superhero transformation, and featured a notably serious tone for a movie that started out as a project for comic mastermind Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) before the director abruptly left the project in 2014 (Bring It On helmer Peyton Reed eventually took over). This new clip brings more full-sized humor to the pint-sized origin story: As genius scientist Pym rallies con man Lang to the righteous cause, Lang says his days of “breaking into places and stealing stuff are over.” A deadpan Pym then gives Lang his first assignment: “I want you to break into a place and steal some stuff.”
Meanwhile, we also get a better look of Corey Stoll’s corporate suit villain Darren Cross, including the first look at him in his nefarious Yellowjacket gear.
There’s still no confirmation that Evangeline Lilly’s character Hope Van Dyne will indeed become the Wasp, but superhero suit or no, she’s still one tough cookie, giving the cocky Lang a quick lesson in slugs to the face. Also making an appearance: Thomas the Tank Engine. That’s right, your favorite choo-choo train from childhood throws down with Ant-Man in a climactic rumble. Apparently Yellowjacket doesn’t know who he’s messing with.
