Netflix's Resident Evil series adds John Wick & Riverdale duo

Resident Evil on Netflix has brought onboard some fresh faces including Lance Reddick and Adeline Rudolph.

Known for their respective roles in John Wick and Riverdale, this duo's casting was announced alongside that of Ella Balinska, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong and Paola Nuñez.

In the upcoming live-action series, consisting of eight hour-long episodes, an outbreak of the T-virus almost 30 years on from its discovery will unmask the Umbrella Corporation's sinister secrets.

Characters for five of these six acting additions are being kept under wraps for the time being, but we do know that Reddick will play Albert Wesker.

This is a significant move as the video game villain has always been presented as white.

Meanwhile, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City actor Tom Hopper recently teased the big-screen reboot, which has no connection to the series.

Also a portrayer of Wesker, he explained: "I feel like the Wesker in the game obviously has that [Agent] Smith from The Matrix-type idea. I wanted him to be a bit more three-dimensional than that, and have a moral high ground.

"It's not just as cut and dry as it is in the game. There's an origin element to Wesker in this, and what he maybe was before he turned into the one we see in a lot of the games.

"But I think from an aesthetic point of view, I think the games really influence this well."

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is scheduled for release September 3.
