Netflix reveals Gentefied future in unfortunate update

Netflix has announced that it won't be renewing the Latino comedy-drama series Gentefied for a third season.

The series, which hails from creators Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez, alongside executive producer, Ugly Betty's America Ferrera, has been cancelled after two seasons, Deadline has reported.

The series follows East Los Angeles Latino characters on their search for the "American Dream" and was a hit with critics, but season two failed to hit the streaming service's top 10 lists.

Season 2 sees Erik Morales (JJ Soria) and his cousin Chris (Carlos Santos) struggle to keep their Pops (Joaquin Cosio) in the country while dealing with new loves, new babies and estranged fathers.

The series also starred Annie Gonzalez, Karrie Martin Lachney and Julissa Calderon, Melinna Bobadilla, Manuel Uriza, Ivana Rojas and Clarissa Thibeaux.

Ferrera's next big project is new Apple TV+ series WeCrashed, a workplace series which will premiere in spring 2022.

She is set to star alongside The Dark Knight Rises star Anne Hathaway and Zack Snyder's Justice League's Jared Leto in the limited series, which is based on the Wondery podcast of the same name.

Wecrashed focuses on a real-estate company named WeWork that specialises in providing flexible shared workspaces and office services to entrepreneurs and enterprises, which hit the headlines when it filed for an IPO (initial public offering) in 2019.

Ferrera will play a character called Elishia Kennedy, who is described as "a brilliant young entrepreneur seduced into joining WeWork, and whose life is turned upside down as a result", though no other characters have been revealed as yet.

The actress, who rose to fame after playing the lead role of Betty Suarez in ABC's brilliant comedy-drama Ugly Betty between 2006 and 2010, is also an executive producer on the series, along with Leto and Hathaway.
