Netflix, Nexus Studios Reveal Helena Bonham Carter, Dizzee Rascal For New Adult Animation ‘The House’ at Annecy

Netflix has announced that a host of bold-name British stars – including actor Helena Bonham Carter and rapper Dizzee Rascal – will join the cast of its quirky new animated series “The House.”

The announcement was made during a session at the Annecy International Animation Festival, where Netflix offered fans a sneak peak at the adult-oriented show, which is being produced by Nexus Studios.

Bonham Carter will voice Jen, an “eccentric tenant,” while Rascal will voice a character only known as “the Policeman”.

Joining the duo are Mia Goth (“Emma”), Miranda Richardson (“Stronger”) and Matthew Goode (“Stoker”). Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker will also be among the vocal talent.

“The House” is a stop-motion animation in three unconnected parts. Described as an “eccentric dark comedy” it centers around a single house and its inhabitants. During the Annecy panel, fans also got a look at the creative process and some of the puppets.

Chapter one is directed by Belgian auteurs Emma de Swaef and Marc James Roels (“This Magnificent Cake!”), Chapter two by Swedish director Niki Lindroth von Bahr (“The Burden”) and Chapter three by Paloma Baeza (“Poles Apart”)

“The characters in ‘The House,’ albeit in different ways, are all trying to make sense of the world and their place within it,” said producer Charlotte Bavasso. “It’s about their flawed attempt to conform to an idea of who they think they are or who they think they ought to be. And whether they manage to break free or not. We couldn’t have dreamt of a better cast: they all embraced the heart of those existentialist comedies and the uniquely caustic sense of humor of our visionary filmmakers and writer in spectacular ways.”
