On Wednesday (March 29), Netflix confirmed that it would move forward with a 10-episode second season of the thriller series thanks to its impressive viewership figures in the first week of release.
This news comes on the heels of Netflix announcing that The Night Agent attracted 168.7m hours viewed in its first few days, making it the streamer's third-best series launch ever.
The Kings of Summer's Gabriel Basso stars in The Night Agent as FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who's investigating a conspiracy that could reach the highest levels of the US government.
SWAT and The Shield creator Shawn Ryan has adapted the series for Netflix from author Matthew Quirk's spy novel of the same name.
"The last week has been a whirlwind as we've finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world," Ryan said.
He added: "To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix. We couldn't be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on season two to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans."
Netflix's Jinny Howe said: "We're proud to see The Night Agent deliver a breakout performance and become instantly embraced around the world.
"Shawn Ryan has created a spy thriller sensation that viewers cannot get enough of, with a stellar cast featuring Gabriel Basso, Luciane Buchanan and Hong Chau, and we’re here to bring them more of the action and suspense they love."
Aside from the main trio of stars mentioned by Netflix in its statement, The Night Agent also features Marvel's Agents of SHIELD star Eve Harlow, Lucifer's DB Woodside and Yellowjackets' Sarah Desjardins.
The first season of The Night Agent is streaming now on Netflix worldwide.
