Neighbours actor Tim Robards has received support from his former soap co-stars after suffering a painful accident while playing football.

The star, who played the original Pierce Greyson between 2018 and 2020, shared a series of photos on Instagram from his hospital bed, including two selfies of himself in a hospital gown and one of his damaged leg.

Explaining that the accident had taken place as he was "dashing down the footy field in glorious full flight", the actor revealed that he had to have a muscle reattached after the incident.

"A part of me that had been a part of me for 39 years was no longer... a part of me," he wrote. "So long story short, I had to have that muscle reattached (rec fem) so I can walk/run again properly.

"I'm normally really good with my warm ups but this time life got in the way, and a few rushed leg swings and high knees just didn't cut it (note to future self).

"So now it's crutches and a leg brace for me for the next month or so whilst I rehab and get in the best shape of my life approaching 40."

The star also thanked the "wonderful" medical team who have "put me back together".

Tim has received get well soon messages from several of his former Neighbours co-stars, including Ben Turland, who plays Pierce's on-screen son Hendrix Greyson, who wrote: "Jeez!! Good luck with the recovery brother" – to which Tim responded: "thanks son" and "Daddy will see you soon when he's better".

Actress Sharon Johal, who starred as Pierce's love interest Dipi Rebecchi, commented: "Ahhhh that sucks but glad you're ok xxx sending our best!" while David Tanaka star Takaya Honda wrote: "Hoping for a fast recovery mate!".

Tim later revealed that he has already made a gym comeback, sharing a snap of himself in workout gear and writing: "Realised I still have two arms and one good leg... Slow and steady but still moving forward, not backwards...

"To be honest, I love my couch at night with some Netflix but can only take so much during the day!"

During Tim's time in Neighbours, his character Pierce married Chloe Brennan (April Rose Pengilly) before embarking on an affair with Dipi, while he also experienced a sometimes volatile relationship with son Hendrix.

The actor departed his role a month earlier than planned when the COVID-19 pandemic caused travel restrictions to be put in place, as he decided to fly home to Sydney ahead of the birth of his first child with wife Anna Heinrich.

Pierce was recast in order for his final scenes to be filmed, with actor Don Hany briefly taking over the role before Pierce made his exit.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 6pm on Channel 5 (UK) and Mondays to Thursdays at 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
