Neighbours star Jackie Woodburne has revealed which actor she would like to return ahead of the show’s upcoming revival.

Amazon Freevee gave the Australian soap a new lease of life in November, renewing the show after it had been cancelled by Channel 5 earlier in the year, but details of returning characters for the reboot has largely been kept under wraps so far.

Woodburne’s Susan Kennedy will be one of the characters returning to Ramsay Street, and revealed to the RadioTimes who she wanted to join her.

“I have to say, Janet Andrewartha, who plays Lyn Scully, is a dear friend of mine and I would love to see her come back,” she said. “I like hanging out with Janet, so that would be good fun. And she was a great character [too].”

Andrewartha debuted as Lyn in 1999, before departing in 2006; she subsequently reprised her role in several stints, most recently playing the character in 2019.

Whilst Woodburne is one of the few stars confirmed to be returning, several former cast members have spoken about the possibility of reprising their roles, with Jordy Lucas revealing that she would consider playing Summer Hoyland again.

“I definitely would [think about playing Summer again]” she exclusively told Digital Spy. “I don't live too far from the studio. I have nothing but fond memories of my time on the show, and if they were to ask me back, I would jump at the chance. I had the best time there and it would be amazing.

“I'm not sure what Summer would be doing now. I'm sure she'd be doing something in the journalism space – perhaps she'd be a podcaster too,” she added, in reference to her own career since departing the soap in 2013.

Neighbours returns in the second half of 2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
