Neighbours' Mackenzie and Hendrix wedding celebrated at Melbourne Museum

Neighbours' heartwarming Mackenzie Hargreaves and Hendrix Greyson wedding will be celebrated in a museum.

In June 2022, the Aussie soap saw the characters played by Georgie Stone and Ben Turland say 'I do' in front of their families and friends.

Now the dress worn by Australian transgender actress and activist Stone, who plays Mackenzie, will be part of an LGBTQ+ exhibit at the Melbourne Museum.

The first trans star to be cast on the soap, Stone blazed trails for the LGBTQ+ community in Australia with the onscreen ceremony, the first wedding including a trans character to be televised in the country.

The gown she wore on the day, which features a Monarch butterfly detail on one shoulder, will be on display as part of the museum's Rainbow Threads collection to celebrate five important dates in the LGBTQ+ calendar (via Star Observer).

The first stage of the exhibition kicks off on March 31 to mark International Transgender Day of Visibility.

Other additions to the collection will be revealed throughout the year to mark International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia on May 17, Non-Binary People's Day on July 14, International Lesbian Day on October 8 and World AIDS Day on December 1.

Fans of the Neighbours couple will recall they didn't get to have their happy ending after all. Shortly after the wedding, Hendrix sadly died when his lung transplant was rejected, leaving Mackenzie heartbroken.

Speaking with Digital Spy about the tragic storyline — aired not long before the soap bowed out prior to this year's revival — Stone remarked on the importance of not leaving her character's story ending on a sombre note.

"I think it would be a disservice to this wonderful trans character, who has meant so much to so many people, to have her end in this really dark, devastating place," she said.

It will be interesting to see where Mackenzie, who has been confirmed to return in the new episodes on Amazon Freevee, will go from there.

Neighbours returns in the second half of 2023 with new episodes streaming free on Amazon Freevee in the UK and US. Network 10 will retain first-run rights in Australia for the new series.
