Yahoo Movies 'NCIS' Fans Are So Emotional Over Instagram Clip of Gibbs and McGee's Last Moments
NCIS is officially beginning a new era without Gibbs and already there are signs that it won’t be an easy transition for anyone.
While fans of the hit CBS drama were anticipating actor Mark Harmon’s exit since the season 19 premiere, NCIS characters in the show weren't quite as prepared. But before Gibbs revealed in the episode titled "Great Wide Open" that Alaska was going to be his new home, McGee (Sean Murray) got the chance to close one last case with him.
Throughout his final episode, Gibbs was in a reflective mood and told McGee that despite working on many cases over his 25 years, solving the Sonova case was at the top of his list. “Because what we did today, saving this land, may be the most meaningful out of all of them,” Gibbs said. After telling McGee that he should be proud of himself, Gibbs gave him one last order for a good reason. Watch how the entire scene unfolds in the clip below.
Needless to say, seeing the two NCIS characters share one of their last moments together instantly brought fans to tears.
“The father and son relationship was the best part of the show and I was glad McGee got to say goodbye. The hug and ‘I love you’ was perfect for these [two]. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️,” one person said. “@ncis_cbs you all ready tugging my heart strings hard this season. Really great and emotional episode! Still teary here,” another added. “Just finished this episode it was so good and emotional 😢 I was smiling the whole time I’m proud of Mark I can’t believe how long he’s been doing this! Hope he comes back to visit [though],” a follower commented.
While many felt overwhelmed by Gibbs leaving NCIS, others seemed to understand that his departure, no matter how painful, was necessary for the storyline. “This man deserves a break and I respect that. ❤️❤️❤️,” someone wrote. “Gibbs needed rest and he needs peace,” a different person added.
Still, it’s hard for NCIS fans to envision a team without Gibbs. Many are hoping that he’ll "pull a Ducky" and come back every now and then.
