The new season of NCIS kicked off on Monday night — and boy was it a real doozy.

Picking up from the season 18 finale in May, fans were immediately brought back to the bombing of former Special Agent in Charge Gibbs (Mark Harmon)'s new boat, which was aptly named Rule 91. Thankfully, Gibbs survived the attack, despite being severely injured. While investigating the boat explosion, McGee (Sean Murray) and Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) noticed a part of the boat that had "Rule 91" written on it and instantly wanted to take control of the case.

In a different scene of the season 19 premiere — which the show decided to post on Instagram — we see Torres, McGee and Knight (Katrina Law) going over evidence together and McGee telling the team he knows what Rule 91 means. As McGee somberly explains, Rule 91 is, "When you decide to walk away, never look back."

After seeing that very scene on Instagram, fans immediately got emotional and worried about what this could mean for Gibbs's future on the popular crime drama series. "Man, what a scene. You can really feel McGee’s emotions," one fan said. "I hope Gibbs doesn't die, if Gibbs dies I'll say bye to NCIS 😭😭😭," another wrote. "Noooooo Imma cryyyy😭😭😭😭," a different fan commented.

Luckily, things worked out okay in the end. McGee told Gibbs he hated Rule 91 because it violates Rule 1, which is "never screw over your partner." Although Gibbs pushed back, McGee maintained that they all work better together as a team. Gibbs agreed and together they continued to work on solving the crime at hand.

While Gibbs seems to be back in action, fans should be prepared to see less and less of the character as the season progresses. According to what "sources" told TVLine, Mark is only scheduled to appear in a "relatively small number of episodes" in season 19. Specifically, one fan claimed the episode count was "in the low single digits."

Meanwhile, Deadline reports that Gary Cole's new character, FBI Special Agent Alden Park, is expected to "help fill the void" left by Mark. That said, we won't really know what's going on until we watch the rest of season 19.
