Golden Lake -- Residents of the Golden Lake area will now be saved the 36 kilometre round trip trek to the North Algona Wilberforce Township office on Shaw Woods Road at Lake Dore when accessing services from their township.
At the regular township council meeting on September 7th, council was informed the purchase of the former Carl’s Auto building has been finalized and the township has officially taken possession of the site.
“Our plan would be to have our main reception person at Golden Lake on Wednesday and the second staff assigned there… that may be a combination of public works and another office person,” township CAO Andrew Sprunt told council.
He went on to explain the hours of operation of the new satellite office may be adjusted after a three-month trial period, based on feedback from the community.
Internet and telephone lines are now in place and a security system is being added this week. All systems should be in place by Thanksgiving weekend. For now, services offered at the Golden Lake office will include tax payments, the purchase of dog licenses and garbage tags. The public has to wait another month, however, for the official opening on October 6th.
Residents of the community are already in the loop, given that a sign has been erected and public works has quickly started to use the facility as a base for operations.
In his opening address at the September 7th meeting, Mayor James Brose said the satellite office is one of two recent significant milestones in Golden Lake.
"Renovations of the Golden Lake Fire Hall are complete and the contribution of time and labour from our volunteer firefighters has been remarkable," he said in his opening address to council.
An open house is being planned for early October.
CAO Andrew Sprunt said the township paid $25,000 for the Golden Lake property.
