N.B. reports latest COVID-19 death in Edmundston area, bringing total to 107

FREDERICTON — Public Health officials in New Brunswick are confirming that a person in their 70s in the Edmundston region has died as a result of COVID-19, bringing the province's virus-related death toll to 107.

The province reported 40 new cases of COVID-19 and 81 recoveries on Saturday, leaving a total of 689 active infections.

Of the 43 people hospitalized due to the virus, 22 are unvaccinated, two are partially vaccinated and 19 are fully immunized.

The province says 13 people remain in an intensive care unit, 12 of whom are unvaccinated and one of whom is partially vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the province says the circuit breaker measures that were brought into effect on Oct. 8 have been extended for at least seven more days, until Public Health determines the situation is more stable.

As well, the Campbellton region entered a 14-day circuit breaker on Friday at 6 p.m. to address the high number of COVID-19 cases in that region.
