Murray State softball bus in accident on way to NCAA Tournament. Three injuries reported.

Three members of the Murray State University softball team were injured Wednesday when the team’s bus was involved in an accident on the way to the NCAA Tournament in Tuscaloosa, Ala., the school announced.

The three individuals were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries for further testing, according to a Twitter post from Murray State Athletics. The school’s tweet did not detail where or when the wreck took place.

The school’s announcement also did not specify whether the injured were players, coaches or other team staff. Everyone else walked away from the accident unharmed, according to Racers officials.

A report from WHNT-TV in Huntsville, Ala., said the wreck took place on Highway 13 near Bankston, Ala. The TV station spoke with the mother of one of the Murray State players on the bus. AL.com reported later Thursday that 26 people were aboard the Murray State bus and that the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. CDT. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told AL.com that the bus collided with a commercial vehicle and that the three injured passengers were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa.

The Racers (40-16-1) are scheduled to play in a four-team NCAA Tournament regional at the University of Alabama beginning Friday. The other teams in the regional are the host school Alabama, Chattanooga and Stanford. Murray State secured an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament by winning last weekend’s Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time ever.

Murray State’s opening game in the double-elimination regional was scheduled to be played Friday at 6:30 p.m. EDT.

WPSD-TV in Paducah interviewed Murray State players as they boarded their charter bus for Tuscaloosa on Wednesday afternoon.

“Now we’re going to go finish the story we’ve written so far,” Murray State outfielder Logan Braundmeier said.

There was no word early Thursday about whether the accident would alter the team’s plans.

Vince Marrow, the associate head coach and recruiting coordinator for the University of Kentucky football team, tweeted an update about the team just before midnight Eastern time. Marrow’s daughter Yanna, a sophomore from Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, plays for Murray State.

“Hey everyone just want to let everyone (know) that @RacersSoftball is ok. Thanks for prayers,” Vince Marrow tweeted.
