Greta Gerwig responds to Barbie's record-breaking success
Greta Gerwig has opened up about the record-breaking success Barbie has enjoyed since it was released in July.
The billion-dollar Barbie has broken a number of records, including becoming the highest-grossing film by a female director, beating records held by Harry Potter, and becoming Warner Bros' highest-grossing film in the US.
Barbie is also likely to be in contention for a number of Oscars, including acting nominations for Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, as well as recognition for its sets and costumes. In an interview at the London Film Festival (here via Deadline), Gerwig spoke about this success.

“It’s been incredible,” Gerwig said of the huge success her movie has had.
“I was invited to go on this journey. Margot Robbie came to me and said do you want to write this. She was the producer and star with David Heyman and Tom Ackerley. They put together this incredible team of people, and the process of making it was such a joy.”
Gerwig also explained that she secretly went into New York cinemas during the movie's opening weekend and explained to the cinema staff how to best present her film.

“I went around theatres, stood in the back, and turned up the volume if I felt it wasn’t playing at the perfect level. It was the most thrilling thing," Gerwig said.
Such has been the success of Barbie that some fans have been calling for a sequel. Gerwig spoke about this earlier this year.
"At this moment, it's all I've got. I feel like that at the end of every movie, like I'll never have another idea and everything I’ve ever wanted to do, I did," Gerwig said.
