Olympic hurdler Devon Allen signs with Philadelphia Eagles

After an injury ended his football at Oregon career in 2016, Devon Allen put his football career on hold to focus on track.

Now after six years, Allen is giving football another try.

On Friday, the Philadelphia Eagles signed Allen, who was a wide receiver at Oregon from 2014-2016. During his time with the Ducks, Allen caught 54 receptions for 919 yards and eight touchdowns. Allen's best season was in 2014 when he brought down 41 receptions for 684 yards and seven touchdowns.

After suffering his second torn ACL on the football field in 2016, Allen focused all his attention on track and field as he won the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials 110-meter hurdles and finished fifth in the 2016 Olympics. He also finished fourth in the 2020 Olympics.

Last week, Allen took part in Oregon's Pro Day as he ran a 4.35 40-yard dash. Allen told reporters that the plan was always to get back into football eventually. He also plans to run in the World Athletics Championships in Eugene from July 15-24 and then get ready for training camp the following week.

"I wanted to come to Pro Day and announce that I was taking this seriously," Allen said. "The goal is to get ready for Worlds, compete in Worlds, win, break a world record, win the whole thing and when Worlds is done July 18, go to camp at the end of July when training camp starts.

"That's the goal I envision in my head to make it work and I feel like it is quite possible."
