Kopitar's OT winner lifts Kings to 5-4 win over Oilers, even series at 1-1
EDMONTON — The Los Angeles Kings weren’t about to bow out quietly. Anze Kopitar scored the overtime winner and had a pair of assists as the Kings knocked off the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 to tie their opening-round playoff series 1-1 on Wednesday. Kopitar scored just 2:07 into overtime after a weird bounce gave him a lane up the centre of the ice and he beat Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner high to the glove side. “Honestly, it was kind of a wacky play where Mikey (Anderson) throws it up the boards, and I

UK's Travis Perkins Q1 revenue down 4% amid tough market
Fortunes of companies such as Travis Perkins are firmly tied to the health of the housing repair, maintenance and improvement segment, which has been under some pressure as Britons continue to curb spending in the wake of broader economic woes. Travis Perkins said sales across its merchanting segment dropped 4.4% in the quarter on the back of subdued volumes, while pricing had largely stabilised but remained lower than prior year. Earlier this month, Britain's largest tile retailer Topps Tiles said subdued demand in the domestic repair and maintenance sector, especially for big-ticket projects, persisted into 2024, adding that lower volumes would impact its half-year profit.

FTSE 100 Live 25 April: Sainsbury's results; mining takeover plan revealed, shares seen steady
Anglo American confirmed last night that it is considering an all-share offer by BHP but did not disclose the price on the table from its Sydney-based rival. It did reveal, however, that the proposal is first dependent on it completing separate demergers of its South Africa-listed platinum and iron ore operations to Anglo shareholders. “The premium offered by overseas buyers swooping on London-listed firms is seen as evidence that UK assets are still cheap, having been languishing as a result of the Brexit-effect and the sluggish performance of the UK economy.”
