The Future's Not Bright Part of the appeal for the ladies should stem from the love story between Peter Parker and his first love, Gwen Stacy, played by Emma Stone. In a move that caused much furor in the comic book world, Stacy is tragically killed by the Green Goblin during “The Amazing Spider-Man #121” (1973). While the Green Goblin isn’t a part of this film, and though Webb hasn’t confirmed Stacy’s fate in upcoming sequels, for Stone, some of the allure of the role comes from Stacy’s tragic arc. "That is so shocking and horrifying and kind of beautiful in some way. The fact that people unsubscribed and burned their copies — I like anything that causes some kind of upheaval," Stone told MTV News.
