The Bank of Japan kept interest rates around zero on Friday and highlighted a growing conviction that inflation was on track to durably hit 2% in coming years, signalling its readiness to hike borrowing costs later this year. UPDATE 1-Safran posts higher Q1 revenue, keeps financial targets
French jet engine maker Safran posted an 18.1% jump in first-quarter revenue and reaffirmed financial targets for the year while joining U.S. partner GE Aerospace in lowering a target for engine deliveries. The Paris-based company posted quarterly revenues of 6.22 billion euros ($6.67 billion), up 19.1% on an underlying basis. Safran co-produces engines for Boeing and Airbus narrow-body jets with GE Aerospace through their CFM joint venture, which is the sole supplier to Boeing's 737 MAX family of jets and competes with Pratt & Whitney on the Airbus A320neo series.

Ukraine court orders agriculture minister into custody for suspected corruption
A Ukrainian court ordered on Friday for Agriculture Minister Mykola Solsky to be taken into custody over allegations of his involvement in an illegal acquisition of state-owned land worth about $7 million. Solsky denies the allegations, which relate to events in 2017-2021, before he started as agriculture minister in March 2022. The judge set bail at 75.7 million hryvnias ($1.9 million).Solsky tendered his resignation letter on Thursday but technically remains in his post until parliament consid

Alphabet, Microsoft shares jump as investors cheer AI investment
Microsoft and Google showed investors that heavy artificial intelligence investment can pay off with rising revenue, allaying concerns raised a day earlier by Meta, which said its expensive foray into AI was not immediately paying off. Shares in Google-parent Alphabet were up over 11% in Frankfurt on Friday, while Microsoft shares rose nearly 5%. Microsoft beat Wall Street estimates for third-quarter revenue and profit on Thursday, driven by gains from adoption of artificial intelligence across its cloud services.
