Lana Del Rey has claimed that her tour manager quit "for no reason" before her headlining set at Coachella over the weekend. Days after taking the stage as headliner at Coachella on Friday evening, the singer-songwriter took to Instagram to thank her team for their support and reveal that she recently recovered from laryngitis. The Summertime Sadness hitmaker went on to thank individual members of her team and slam her tour manager for allegedly quitting just 37 days before the set.
A civilian interrogator who worked 20 years ago at the infamous Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq denied abusing detainees Thursday, and told jurors he was actually promoted for doing a good job. Steven Stefanowicz, who worked for military contractor CACI when he was assigned to Abu Ghraib in 2003 and 2004, has long been a key figure in the abuse scandal that emerged when photos became public showing U.S. soldiers smiling as detainees were forced into shocking poses of physical and sexual humiliation. While multiple soldiers were convicted and sentenced to prison in courts-martial for their roles at Abu Ghraib, neither Stefanowicz nor any other civilian contractor who worked at the prison has ever been charged with a crime.
Sanofi would implement a "streamlined strategic sales structure" to better support its customers and patients, it said without disclosing any details on the changes to be made, the timeframe and the number of employees to be impacted. Sanofi CEO Paul Hudson has been trying to build investor confidence in the company's drug pipeline since he unexpectedly abandoned 2025 margin targets last October to instead boost drug development spending. The company's vaccine portfolio includes preventive shots for a common respiratory infection in infants, influenza vaccines, COVID vaccines and vaccines for infections like meningitis and tetanus.
The man who blew the lid off decades of abuse allegations at New Hampshire’s youth detention center continued testifying at his civil trial Thursday, describing being treated for gonorrhea after being raped at age 15. In the seven years since David Meehan went to police, the state has set up a $100 million fund for former residents of the Sununu Youth Services Center in Manchester and brought criminal charges against 11 former state workers, including four accused of abusing Meehan.
Chinese government-linked hackers have burrowed into U.S. critical infrastructure and are waiting "for just the right moment to deal a devastating blow," FBI Director Christopher Wray said on Thursday. An ongoing Chinese hacking campaign known as Volt Typhoon has successfully gained access to numerous American companies in telecommunications, energy, water and other critical sectors, with 23 pipeline operators targeted, Wray said in a speech at Vanderbilt University. China is developing the "ability to physically wreak havoc on our critical infrastructure at a time of its choosing," Wray said at the 2024 Vanderbilt Summit on Modern Conflict and Emerging Threats.
The Canadian dollar steadied against its U.S. counterpart on Thursday, with the currency unable to sustain earlier gains as recent moves in yield spreads counted against it. "It's going to have a tough pathway to appreciate meaningfully given the really wide (interest rate) spread between the U.S. and Canada," said Amo Sahota, director at Klarity FX in San Francisco. The gap between Canada's 2-year yield and the U.S. equivalent has widened to 75 basis points in favor of the U.S. note from 45 basis points at the start of the month as investors bet that the Bank of Canada would begin cutting interest rates ahead of the Federal Reserve.
TORONTO — Canada's main stock index gained just over 50 points on Thursday, helped by strength in utilities and base metals, while U.S. markets were mixed. The prospect of interest rates in the U.S. remaining higher for longer continues to cast a shadow over equity markets, fostering cautious sentiment, said Ryan Crowther, portfolio manager at Franklin Templeton Canada. “I think the fixation on rate cuts is driving the narrative,” he said. In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 22.

Deutsche Bank has revised its rating on Tesla (TSLA), downgrading the stock to Hold from a Buy rating as the automaker shifts its focus to the production of a robotaxi. Deutsche Bank Lead US Autos Analyst Emmanuel Rosner joins Market Domination to explain the downgrade. Rosner says "there's a strategic change" occurring within Tesla, saying that the company's new pricing strategies could potentially boost margins and overall profitability. However, he cautions that if Tesla redirects all of its resources toward the development of a robotaxi, it could face prolonged challenges. For long-term investors, the concept of the robotaxi remains "exciting", but Rosner expresses concerns about Tesla's new direction. He emphasizes the risks of concentrating the company’s efforts solely on the robotaxi, moving away from its core electric vehicle production. According to Rosner, this strategy "is extremely risky for investors", as "it's betting the entire company on robotaxi", an unproven market segment that other automotive competitors have faced setbacks in.
