More than 50 people were arrested at a pro-Palestine protest at the University of Texas at Austin on the evening of Wednesday, April 24, according to local reports citing an attorney assisting those arrested.Footage captured by Nick Sortor shows protesters chanting as police officers move through the crowd. The officers can then be seen pushing the crowd back as mounted police arrive on the scene.The protest, which was convened by the Palestine Solidarity Committee (PSC), began around noon on Wednesday. University of Texas police issued a dispersal order about six hours later and confirmed an all-clear about four hours after that.According to George Lobb, an attorney with the Austin Lawyers Guild, about 54 people were arrested in relation to the protest and were being held at the Travis County Jail.The PSC has planned a walkout on Thursday demanding the release of the arrested protesters. Investment firm Shareholder Capital sent a letter to drugmaker Vanda Pharmaceuticals' board on Thursday asking it to reconsider Future Pak's takeover offer. Last week, Vanda rejected contract manufacturer Future Pak's offer of $7.25 to $7.75 per share in cash, which represents a 59%-70% premium to Wednesday's closing price, and adopted a shareholder rights plan to avert a hostile takeover attempt. Shareholder Capital, which owns 200,000 outstanding shares of Vanda, asked in its letter, "on what basis did the Board reject Future Pak's offer, which values Vanda shares at nearly 2x their unaffected price."
