OPEC+ wary of renewed US oil output rise under Trump, sources say
OPEC+ is wary of a renewed rise in U.S. oil output when Donald Trump returns to the White House, delegates from the group said, because more U.S. oil would further erode OPEC+ market share and hamper the producer group's efforts to support prices. OPEC+ pumps about half of the world's oil and earlier this month delayed a plan to raise output until April.

As bitcoin soars, luxury brands consider accepting crypto payments
Bitcoin’s soaring value has caught the attention of high-end fashion brands and retailers, prompting further interest in offering cryptocurrencies as a means of payment to tap in to fresh pockets of wealth and build loyalty with crypto investors. Until recently, only a handful of luxury brands including LVMH watch labels Hublot and Tag Heuer as well as Kering-owned fashion brands Gucci and Balenciaga have experimented with crypto payment offers. In recent weeks, upscale French luxury department store Printemps announced it was teaming up with the world's largest crypto exchange, Binance, and French financial tech company Lyzi to accept cryptocurrencies including bitcoin and ethereum in its stores in France - becoming the first European department store to do so.

Trump should be active on UN rights body to counter China, US envoy says
A U.S. envoy told Reuters that U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's team should stay active at the United Nations Human Rights Council, partly to counter what she described as China's "dangerous" influence. In his first term, Trump quit the Geneva-based body, citing an anti-Israel bias. Michele Taylor, who has been Washington's envoy to the council since, said it was important to stay engaged and that she planned to make this case to Trump's team as part of the handover.

As wars rage around them, Armenian Christians in Jerusalem's Old City feel the walls closing in
As the war in Gaza rages, Syria's government transforms, and the Israeli-occupied West Bank seethes, Armenian residents of the Old City of Jerusalem fight a different battle — one that is quieter, they say, but no less existential. One of the oldest communities in Jerusalem, the Armenians have lived in the Old City for decades without significant friction with their neighbors, centered around a convent that acts as a welfare state. Now, the small Christian community has begun to fracture under pressure from forces they say threaten them and the multifaith character of the Old City.

Iran's Revolutionary Guards extend control over Tehran's oil exports, sources say
Iran's Revolutionary Guards have tightened their grip on the country's oil industry and control up to half the exports that generate most of Tehran's revenue and fund its proxies across the Middle East, according to Western officials, security sources and Iranian insiders. All aspects of the oil business have come under the growing influence of the Guards, from the shadow fleet of tankers that secretively ship sanctioned crude, to logistics and the front companies selling the oil, mostly to China, according to more than a dozen people interviewed by Reuters. The extent of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) control over oil exports has not previously been reported.

Analysis-BOJ's rate hike debate shifts from 'when?' to 'how high?'
As the guessing game over the timing of Japan's next interest rate hike heats up, another debate is brewing within the central bank over just how much higher rates can go, a question that could be discussed at this week's policy meeting. While markets expect the Bank of Japan to hold off on raising rates on Thursday, Governor Kazuo Ueda is likely to elaborate on the bank's thinking over the future rate-hike path. BOJ staff estimates have shown the bank sees scope to hike short-term rates at least to around 1% without cooling growth, though some in the bank point to recent lacklustre consumption as a sign the level could be lower.
