Most COVID patients in Fayette hospitals, and 92 percent of those in ICU, are unvaccinated

Over three-quarters of the hospitalized patients with COVID-19 in Fayette County are unvaccinated, according to the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department.

New data released by the health department shows that 76% of the 136 patients from Fayette County hospitalized with COVID are unvaccinated. 26 people are in the ICU, and 92% of that group are unvaccinated.

14 people are on a ventilator, all of whom are unvaccinated, per the health department.

The health department reported 2,444 new coronavirus cases from last Saturday-Tuesday. The number of positive tests is likely higher however due to the backlog of cases.

The seven-day rolling average in Fayette County is 746 new cases per day, according to the health department. One week ago the seven-day rolling average was at least 700, which was the highest it’s ever been throughout the entire pandemic.

The health department is still offering vaccine appointments to those who are seeking a vaccination. Same-day appointments can be scheduled every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Public Health Clinic on Newtown Pike.
