Labour hits out at gaps in PM’s Covid defences as Brazil variant found

Labour politicians have criticised the Governments slow response to quarantine after one MP confronted Boris Johnson over blindspots in his Covid defences over a month ago.

The hunt is on for one unidentified traveller with a Brazilian variant of concern after it was detected in the UK, with three cases in England and three in Scotland.

Health bosses are concerned the new strain may spread more rapidly and respond less well to existing vaccines.

First clip of Harry and Meghan’s Oprah interview trailer

A first clip of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’ interview with Oprah Winfrey has been released a week ahead of the primetime special.

CBS released two 30-second excerpts from Oprah With Meghan And Harry: A CBS Primetime Special which is set to air at 8pm EST in the US on Sunday, which is 1am on Monday in the UK.

The clips show Harry and Meghan sitting opposite Oprah in the grounds of their California home in Montecito. At one point in the trailer, Oprah tells viewers, “Just to make it clear to everybody, there is no subject that is off-limits”.

Londoners ignore ‘stay at home’ orders to flock to sundrenched parks

Thousands gathered in London’s green spaces to enjoy the unbroken sunshine and highs of 13C on Saturday.

Police were on patrol breaking up picnics on Wimbledon Common, London Fields and Primrose Hill.

It came the day after England’s deputy chief medical officer has told people “don’t wreck this now” as he warned there were “some worrying signs that people are relaxing” in the coronavirus battle at “exactly the wrong time”.

Glenn Roeder: Former West Ham manager dies aged 65

Former West Ham manager Glenn Roeder has died aged 65 following a long battle with a brain tumour.

Roeder spent two years in charge of West Ham between 2001 and 2003, and also managed Gillingham, Watford, Newcastle United and Norwich City. He also served as a coach under Glenn Hoddle for the England national team.

A statement from the League Managers Association [LME] said: “The LMA is so very deeply saddened following the death of member Glenn Roeder, at the age of 65, after a long battle with a brain tumour. Glenn was a highly respected and much loved member of the coaching fraternity.”

Golden Globes 2021: Josh O’Connor and Daniel Kaluuya among winners

Emma Corrin, Daniel Kaluuya, John Boyega and Josh O’Connor were among the British names who were triumphant at the 78th Golden Globe Awards - which took place amid controversy over a lack of diversity among the show’s voters.

Last night, the Hollywood awards season officially began with the virtual Golden Globes, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler on opposite sides of America.

British royal drama The Crown was one of the biggest winners of the night, taking home four awards out of six nominations.
