The Environmental Protection Agency on Friday designated two forever chemicals that have been used in cookware, carpets and firefighting foams as hazardous substances, an action intended to ensure quicker cleanup of the toxic compounds and require industries and others responsible for contamination to pay for its removal. Designation as a hazardous substance under the Superfund law doesn’t ban the chemicals, known as PFOA and PFOS. The EPA then may require cleanups to protect public health and recover costs that can reach tens of millions of dollars.

Tesla is recalling more than 3,000 of its newly launched 2024 Cybertrucks because of the possibility that a pedal can get stuck and cause the vehicle to accelerate unintentionally, increasing the risk of a crash. Tesla said that the accelerator pedal pad may dislodge and become trapped by the interior trim. The National Highway Traffic Safety Adminstration said that the recall involves model year 2024 Cybertrucks made between Nov. 13, 2023 and April 4, 2024.
