A joint meeting of a group of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs, constituted by Chairperson of Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) Sonia Gandhi, will be held this evening at CPP office in Parliament.

Naidu Expresses Concern Over Parliament Proceedings

Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu expressed concern over about 90 members of the House being denied opportunities to raise issues of public importance, ANI reported.

Here's what he said:

  • A total of 69 Zero Hour mentions, including 12 admitted for today and 23 Special Mentions by as many members, admitted by the Chairman could not be raised in the House during the last week and today due to persistent disruptions.

  • In Zero Hour, as many as 57 matters of 63 members were permitted. However, none could be raised due to the disruption of proceedings.

  • Out of the 31 Special Mentions admitted so far, only 8 could be laid on the Table of the House on Tuesday last week while the rest could not be mentioned in the House.

  • Chairman Naidu also expressed concern over MPs of the House being denied opportunity to seek clarifications from Minister of IT on the statement laid on the Table of the House on Thursday last week regarding "Compromise on phone data of some persons as reported by media"

Efforts Being Made to Ease Travel Restrictions For Students Going Abroad: Centre Tells RS

""The Ministry has been making efforts for easing travel restrictions wherever in place, for Indian students enrolled in foreign universities to make their travel to respective countries possible, MoS MEA V Muraleedharan told the Rajya Sabha.

"Our Missions abroad have been actively taking up these issues with the respective Governments and have been impressing upon those Governments to ease the travel restrictions," the government said.

"Travel restrictions are being eased for Indian students to travel to many countries, including USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Germany, Netherlands,Belgium, Luxembourg, and Georgia," it said.

External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in the Rajya Sabha said that he had a detailed conversation on several issues with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

"The observation that there is a comparison between India and China is not an accurate one. We had a very detailed conversation on a number of issues," he said.

"When it comes to freedom,we shouldn't treat it as non-governance or abdication of responsibilities. Our conversation on this should be balanced," he added.

He further said that he had a detaild discussion with Blinken over Afghanistan, saying that India is clear about a "negotiated, political settlement in Afghanistan."

"There can't be military solution, there can't be a takeover by use of force in Afghanistan. We'll work with international community to ensure that political negotiations for a settlement are pursued seriously and we would never accept an outcome which is decided by force," he said.

Several Opposition MPs, including Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal and BSP leader Ritesh Pandey, protested in the Parliament premises against the Centre's three farm laws.

"Farmers' issues are a priority for the BSP and the Shiromani Akali Dal. For us, the issue of spying is important too as it's a threat to democracy. How can the House function until and unless the government discusses issues of farmers, spying and inflation? The government is mocking the democracy," Pandey told ANI.
