Model Iskra Lawrence celebrates her changing body: 'Gained weight, still feel cute'

British model and body positivity advocate Iskra Lawrence took to social media to embrace her changing body and is calling on others to do the same.

Lawrence, 30, shared in an Instagram post Tuesday that even though she’s "gained weight," she "still feel(s) cute," alongside a series of photos of herself wearing a floral silk two-piece pajama set.

“What a gift to have a body that allows us to experience this life,” Lawrence captioned the post.

The model also encouraged her followers to accept the ways in which their bodies have changed and will continue to change over time. "Let’s continue to normalize that our bodies fluctuate, soften, strengthen, stretch and evolve as we grow into new versions of ourselves,” Lawrence wrote.

Skinny shaming is real. But experts warn against comparing it to fat shaming.

A self-described "champion of body diversity and self-care," Lawrence has worked with clothing retailer American Eagle Outfitters as an #AerieREAL Role Model, modeling intimates apparel, loungewear and swimwear in unretouched photos. She also serves as an ambassador for the National Eating Disorders Association.

Lawrence previously told Insider that although she felt "in awe" of her body when she was pregnant with her now 1-year-old son, she'd had a sense of security with her pre-pregnancy body.

"I felt like I really knew my body," Lawrence said. "I knew the ways that I could move it or the certain kind of exercise that had certain results. I just had a really good grasp on where I was at physically and what my body's capabilities were."

However, after giving birth, Lawrence said she leaned into total body acceptance and chose to "get to know her body as a mom."

"It's a completely brand new body and it has different capabilities," Lawrence told the publication in June. “I haven't got as much muscle mass; it's more turned to soft fat, which is all fine, but it's all different.”

Lawrence has also been open about how she doesn’t allow photos of herself to be edited.

"Just don't feed into this toxic beauty culture that tells women that we have to be this airbrushed illusion that is completely unrealistic even to the model in the photo," Lawrence told Insider.

Lawrence's latest post has received an outpouring of support on Instagram. One user commented, calling Lawrence "an inspiration to all women."

Another user, who struggles with self-consciousness about their postpartum body, thanked Lawrence for her “transparency” and body-positive posts.

"I am 2 months postpartum, and while I think every body is amazing and deserves appreciation, I still find myself feeling self conscious from time to time," the user commented. "Your posts have always reminded me to love myself where I am, and I can't express enough how powerful that is."
