Moana's Grandma Is 'Village Crazy Lady' in This Clip From Disney's Latest Animated Feature (Exclusive)

There’s no doubt that Moana, the titular heroine of Disney’s upcoming animated adventure, is a brave one. She’s about to set sail on a treacherous seafaring quest and the fate of her entire island community will rely on her navigational prowess. Now, if only someone would talk her out of it…

The 16-year-old (voiced by newcomer Auli’i Cravalho), daughter of Motunui Island’s Chief Tui, hopes that voice of reason will be her Gramma Tala (Rachel House). But as you can see in the exclusive clip from Moana above, Gramma Tala ain’t biting.

Gramma Tala, who admits she’s the “village crazy lady,” is more concerned with becoming one with the ocean’s manta rays than giving credence to Moana’s half-hearted fears. “Is there something you want to tell me?” a perplexed Moana asks her. “Is there something you want to hear?” Gramma responds.

Moana, which was written by Jared Bush (Zootopia) and directed by animation maestros Ron Clements and John Musker (The Little Mermaid, Aladdin), also features the voices of Dwayne Johnson, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. The movie opens everywhere Nov. 23.
