Mônot RTW Fall 2021

Eli Mizrahi’s fall collection, or “Collection 003,” continues to embrace sexy, bold styles and the idea of “the female form as his canvas,” from which Mônot was founded. For Collection 003’s debut, Mizrahi tapped actress Tiffany Haddish to star alongside a stellar cast of models powerfully emerging (via a runway film and look book) in his bold designs.

Leaning into futurism, modern art and architecture, the Lebanese designer’s largest collection to date (34 looks debuted via the runway film; an edited 27 via look book) incorporated more intricate, skin-revealing cuts than before. A ’90s elan emerged, influenced by Madonna’s 1992 book, “Sex,” emulated best through the introduction of vegan leather fashions — as full looks and as accents on his all-black signature cutout, high-slit, transparent and geometric crepe, silk chiffon and jersey fashions.

The look: Strong, seductive, minimalist glamour.

Quote of note: “I wanted to shake things up even more with this collection. It is a revival of the Mônot woman who is ready to come back stronger than ever. I chose to cast women like Tiffany Haddish for the show because she embodies everything Mônot represents — a woman who portrays inherent strength and confidence.”

Key pieces: A little black vegan leather dress with voluminous skirt shaped with horsehair; minimalist black dresses with ultra high-cut, rounded slits (similarly in a deep V-neck vegan leather trench as seen on Haddish); longer, monochromatic black gowns with architectural peek-a-boo cutouts; a sharp, architectural monochromatic white blazer.

The takeaway: “Anyone who has the confidence to pull it off can wear it,” Mizrahi quipped over Zoom.

Styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, the Mônot “Collection 003” look book and runway film emulated Mizrahi’s brand ethos — emboldening confident women through daring designs — and will surely gain attention for future red carpets.
