Authorities in California said a man who disappeared more than a week ago has been found dead near a dam.
The body of 57-year-old Michael Babb was discovered “on land near the base of Englebright Dam” on Thursday morning, according to a news release from the Nevada County Sheriff's Office (NCSO).
Babb “was last known to be at the Narrow's boat ramp/day use area” before his disappearance, per the NCSO’s original bulletin.
A friend told authorities that Babb said he was “going fishing in [the] early morning hours” of Nov. 23, the sheriff’s office said in its latest update.
Babb was reported missing to the Wheatland Police Department, according to The Sacramento Bee.
A park ranger with the Army Corps of Engineers located Babb’s vehicle “parked near the lake’s Narrows Boat Launch and Day Use area” around 1:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday, per authorities.

NCSO joined the search a short time later and teamed up with multiple other agencies as they searched for the missing man, according to the sheriff’s office.
Crews with the NCSO and Nevada County Sheriff's Search and Rescue Team located the body the next day.
An autopsy will be performed to determine Babb’s cause of death, according to the NCSO.
“The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of Michael Babb,” they said in Thursday’s release.
