As millions hit the road this holiday weekend, others are traveling by train for the first time

Nearly 48 million people are expected to travel this Fourth of July weekend , as airlines work to keep up with flight demand and despite gas prices not going down fast enough, about 42 million of those people will be traveling by car. KCRA 3 checked out the 49er Travel Plaza in Sacramento, where many drivers were filling up their tanks before hitting the road. Friday's national gas average is $4.842 per gallon, in California that average is $6.27.
