Women across Mexico took to the streets on International Women's Day to protest the crisis of violence they face on a daily basis, fueled by what they say is an out-of-touch government and President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's support for a politician accused of rape.
Thousands marched in Mexico City, bringing with them photos with the names of alleged rapists, murderers and harassers of women.

"Together we are the fire, burn everything," said one banner in the crowd, some of whom angrily kicked at a wooden fence around the Monument to the Revolution.
According to public policy think tank Mexico Evalua, which analyzed government data, five million women were victims of sexual violence in the second half of 2020 in Mexico, including harassment, sexual abuse, attempted rape or rape, the vast majority of which did not get reported.
The marches to mark International Women's Day were smaller in size than last year's demonstrations, likely because of concerns about the coronavirus pandemic.
The European Parliament approved rules on Tuesday to give consumers the right to have worn-out products like washing machines and smartphones repaired by producers, to cut waste and make goods last longer. The European Union policy would oblige manufacturers to offer repairs for fridges, vacuum cleaners, televisions, washing machines and other goods that are deemed "repairable" under EU law and sold within the bloc. Consumers will gain the right to choose either a repair - or a replacement - for faulty products while the product is still under guarantee.

Cincinnati Zoo’s vice president of facilities and sustainability, Mark Fisher said: “This gives us a year-round, sustainable source of high-quality food that we can pick and serve immediately.” Other environmental benefits include a reduction in Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from crop cultivation, fertilizer application, and manure management associated with traditional farming. The hydroponic farming method uses nutrient-rich water instead of soil to grow plants, so fertiliser and pesticides are not necessary.

Super RTL, a children's television network belonging to Bertelsmann's RTL Group, has struck a deal to acquire Nickelodeon series in Germany, the group said in a statement on Tuesday. Under the agreement, Super RTL will acquire a rights package to bring current and upcoming series from Nickelodeon, owned by Paramount Global, to its television programme. The German broadcaster also plans to take over Nickelodeon's established satellite frequency to create a new linear children's channel, the statement said.
Rishi Sunak warned the world is now "more volatile and dangerous" than at any time since the Cold War, as the prime minister embarked on a trip to Poland and Germany to discuss the threat of expansionist Russia and refocus the world's eyes back on to Ukraine. Speaking to journalists on the flight over to Poland, the prime minister said we were "unfortunately living in a world that is more dangerous than we've known it in decade, probably more dangerous than the end of the Cold War", adding that this was why it was "important in that we do invest more in our defence and that's what we've been doing". Announcing a further £500m of military support being sent to Ukraine - taking the UK's total support this year to £3bn - the prime minister told journalists he was "proud" the UK had led on supporting Ukraine and also told European allies it was "important" for Europeans to invest in security in these volatile times.
