Ahead of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's in-depth interview with Oprah Winfrey next week, the first trailer has dropped. And, uh, it looks dramatic.

Following in the footsteps of Harry's open-top tour bus interview with James Corden, which was released last week, Meghan will be sitting down to chat to Oprah Winfrey in a CBS primetime special released in the United States on 7 March. It's expected to air in the UK the following day, with numerous channels currently bidding for the rights.

The "wide-ranging" interview is set to cover everything from what it was like for Meghan "stepping into life as a royal, marriage, motherhood, philanthropic work to how she is handling life under intense public pressure," and the trailer reiterates that. The brief clip doesn't feature the Duchess of Sussex doing any of the talking, but we do get some pretty telling lines from Oprah nonetheless.

"Were you silent, or were you silenced?" the clip opens with, along with an atmospheric backing track that wouldn't be out of place in a BBC thriller series. Reinforcing the 'tell-all' nature of the interview, Oprah is next heard saying: "I just want to make it clear, there is no subject that's off limits." Eeeeeek.

In the next shot, the camera pans to Meghan Markle looking visibly emotional, as TV host Oprah says, "'Almost unsurvivable' sounds like there was a breaking point."

Prince Harry also features in the trailer, as he joins his wife in the interview later on. "My biggest concern was history repeating itself," he says, presumably referencing why he and Meghan made the decision to step back from their royal duties.

This isn't the first time the Duke of Sussex has made reference to his fears of what happened to his mother, Princess Diana, happening to his wife, too. In a powerful statement released in October 2019, announcing that the Sussexes would be suing a Sunday paper for printing a private letter written by Meghan Markle to her father, Prince Harry wrote: "My deepest fear is history repeating itself. I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.

The interview looks to have been filmed in the garden of the Duke and Duchess' Montecito home, where they moved last year. Meghan is currently pregnant with her second child, believed to be due around May or June this year.

With Oprah Winfrey reportedly having said the interview with Meghan and Harry is the "best" she's ever done, we can't wait to watch it in full...
