Meet the ghostly new villain in 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'

Looks like we’re going to see a good old-fashioned street fight in Ant-Man and the Wasp, the upcoming sequel to Marvel Studios’ 2015 box-office hit. Evangeline Lilly — who suits up as the Wasp half of the title — was recently spotted in public tangling with a new villain, Ghost, played by Killjoys star Hannah John-Kamen. In video footage recently uploaded to YouTube, Lilly’s Hope van Dyne can be glimpsed in her Wasp costume making a wire-assisted superleap backwards as Ghost dives at her. It goes without saying that these kinds of battles are just part of the family business: After all, Hope’s father and mother, Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne (Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer, making her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut), previously waged a covert fight for good as the first Ant-Man and Wasp superteam.

Although the actresses may be trading blows onscreen, they’re getting along famously in their downtime. When John-Kamen joined the shoot, Lilly celebrated her arrival with a Tweeted tribute.

The actress has also previously used social media to give fans sneak peeks at her fighting form, not to mention her updated Wasp duds, a significant upgrade from what her onscreen mother wore.

Along with Captain MarvelAnt-Man and the Wasp represents Marvel’s ongoing attempts to introduce more female heroes into the MCU in the wake of Wonder Woman‘s phenomenal success. The same goes for its roster of villains; Ghost, for example, was introduced as a male character in the comic books — a data engineer who developed technology that could render solid objects temporarily intangible and now wages war against other tech corporations… like Pym Technologies. Find out if her plan has a … well, ghost of a chance when Ant-Man and the Wasp, starring Paul Rudd as the pint-sized hero, hits theaters on July 6, 2018.
