The Mean Girls musical movie will bring back two familiar faces from the original film.

It was recently announced that the hit Broadway musical will be adapted into a Hollywood movie, after originally being turned into a musical from the 2004 movie. It's a full circle moment!

Tina Fey wrote the film and was involved in producing the musical version, in addition to playing maths teacher Ms Norbury.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers this week, Fey confirmed that she's involved behind the scenes once again and will be reprising her teacher character in the film.

"Teachers work forever. I want it to be like when Gilligan from Gilligan’s Island would be at a trade show and you’d be like, ‘Oh, he looks so old in his little hat.’ That’s my goal," she joked.

Fey confirmed that Mean Girls co-star Tim Meadows will also be back as the school's principal. The two have a long history working together from their years on Saturday Night Live.

The Emmy-winning comedian dropped a few hints about how Mean Girls will transition back to the screen from the stage in discussing the musical's songs.

"The songs are sounding really more kinda pop," she revealed. "In Broadway everything has to play to the back of the house and in movies everything can come back in and things can play really intimately."

Fey does have some performing experience in the musical version of Mean Girls, as she famously parodied the project during a SNL sketch in 2018.

Initial casting for Mean Girls: The Musical includes stage cast member Reneé Rapp, Spider-Man's Angourie Rice, Moana's Auli’i Cravalho, and comedian Jaquel Spivey as students Regina George, Cady, Janis and Damian.

Filming for Mean Girls begins on March 6.
